A pit manager or pit boss is a term used in land-based casinos that refers to a person in charge of managing several casino tables.
Brick-and-mortar casinos have numerous tables for various games, such as blackjack, roulette, and craps, for example. In order for those tables to be accessible to both the casino staff and the players, they are usually arranged in two rows of tables that go back-to-back.
The space between the tables is reserved for casino personnel, such as floormen, dealers, and pit bosses, while the players can access them from the front.
A group of tables arranged like that is known as the pit and, naturally, a pit boss is in charge of what’s going on in a pit. While dealers are in charge of the tables, floormen supervise and correct every mistake that occurs during a game or resolve any issues that arise. However, if there is some serious gaming discrepancy, the pit manager gets involved.
Simply put, a pit manager is a person who oversees the dealers, floormen, and players in order to ensure that everything is functioning smoothly in the pit they are in charge of.
